A presentation on Poetry of Legends like Amir Khusrau, Baba Bulleh Shah to contemporary and young poets like Vinay Kochhar and Dr. Devendra Kafir and their thoughts on Sufism woven in traditional compositions and compositions by Tochi Raina and Band of Bandagi.
Band of Bandagi :
Band of Bandagi is a dream woven by Tochi Raina along with his brother and co-composer Neeru Rawal. Band of Bandagi aims at getting back the essence of Indian Music with a contemporary touch that appeals to today's youth. Band of Bandagi works around the idea that poetry is the backbone to music. Band of Bandagi wants to enlighten some meaningful poetry of Baba Bulleh Shah, Baba Fareed, Rumi, etc. as well as modern lyrical works of Dr. Devendra Kafir, Dr. Moussam Azmi, Vinay Kochhar to name a few. Bridging the gap of Sufi, Folk, Jazz, Rock and other genres of music, Band of Bandagi aims at delivering World Music to Young India.
Tochi Raina :
Tochi Raina is the earthy voice behind many iconic songs gave a new definition to Sufi singing in Bollywood. His claim to fame were songs like Bulleh Shah from A Wednesday, Iktara from Wake up Sid, O Pardesi from Dev D, Saibo from Shor in the City, GiMA Award winning Kabira from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. And most recently his single Dooriyan with his Band of Bandagi which was recently nominated for Mirchi Music Awards. Tochi has been featured in MTV Coke Studio for Yaar Basainda with Mathangi, Rabba Na Kari with Amit Trivedi & Jasmeet Jaggi and Bannado with Sachi Jigar, Bhungarkhan & Manganiar group. He has also been featured in MTV Unplugged for Saibo with Sachin - Jigar.
Neeru Rawal :
Band of Bandagi member Neeru Rawal , currently based in Mumbai, has matured as a singer and as a composer as can be reflected on ""Mann Dagar"" - which he has co-composed with the multi-faceted Tochi Raina - a straight-forward folk tune which showcases arrangements that are tight, laden with an infectious mid-tempo groove, perfectly supported by Indian instrumentation, and powered throughout by Neeru's earthy vocals soaring above the arrangements. "
