Tirunarayana - The Beloved God of Melkote
The production, conceptualized and curated by Asha Krishnakumar, has drawn on inputs from Sri Damal Ramakrishnan and Dr. Chithra Madhavan. The music is by Rajkumar Bharathi, sound design by Sai Shravanam, and the Natyam is choreography by Jayanthi Subramaniam.
The narration by the Sthala Vriksham before every scene is engaging, and the LED images as the backdrop enhance the visual experience. The highlights of the Natyam are the journey of the Rishis to Tirunarayanapuram through thick forests, gushing rivers and severe cyclonic winds; Ramanuja's discovery of Cheluvanarayana and Chellapillai; The obsession of the Princess with Tirunarayana and the beautiful relationship between them; the curse of Alamelu Amma on Raja Wodeyar and his lineage, that is still in vogue; the recovery of the Vairamudi, or the famous diamond crown, by Garuda from Virochaka; and the popular Vairamudi Seva of Tirunarayanapuram.
The booklet, distributed free, contextualizes the fascinating episodes that are depicted in the Natyam and highlights the unique features of the temple.
