Tamaasha's Urdu Readings program is an attempt to enter the rich world of Urdu literature through the writings of some of the finest modern writers.
About the session:
For this month's Urdu reading we will read from Kalaam-e-Niswan, a compilation of women's writings in Urdu put together by Nirantar Trust, a Delhi based feminist organization.
These writings have been sourced from a first women-only weekly newspaper, Tahzeeb-e Niswan, as well as articles from magazines like Khatoon, Ismat, Ustani, Payame Ummeed, Awaz-e-Niswan, and Nairange.
The oldest piece dates back to 1905 and the most recent is from 1956. The articles cover a range of women's writings on issues of education, governance, fashion, and poetry.
Program conceived in association with well-known Urdu scholar/writer, Aslam Parvez.
