Kudos to Nelson for aptly choosing SJ Suryah for the lead role of submissive Anjanam. The actor with his precise expressions and body language nails his character. He shines every bit especially in the climax where the larger message is conveyed endearingly. Priya Bhavani Shankar looks her part and does a decent job. Karunakaran with his one-liners and counter jokes brings the roof down. ...Read full review
The film works largely on SJ Suryahs performance and his goofy encounters with the rat. Priya Bhavani Shankar as the heroine has lesser screen time than the rat, while Karunakarans one-liners as the heros friend are enjoyable. The VFX team has done a decent job, though in some scenes the director has used a real rat. The screenplay could have been tighter with less melodrama as the film drags in the second half. On the whole, Monster offers something new and a fairly engaging film, but could have been more fast-paced with better writing and believable twists. As the old saying goes: dont burn your house to smoke out a rat. ...Read full review
