It is all too familiar: men in uniform, who are deeply righteous and patriotic, going after robbers, arms dealers and terrorists. In fact, as a writer and director Neeraj Pandey has created a brand of thriller with them that he can call his own. Nope, we ain`t kidding. Imagine, just flicking a coin and poof...your confusion disappears just like that! Even if it meant you are stuck in a life-and-death situation! Too hard to believe naa? But in Neeraj Pandey`s parallel universe in Aiyaary, everything`s a smooth cakewalk. ...Read full review
The word Aiyaar means shape-shifter someone who can become someone else at will. The Arabic word was popularized by the landmark Hindi novel Chandrakanta. I suspect that director Neeraj Pandey who has also written the film fell in love with the word first and then reverse-engineered a story around it. Because Aiyaary is half-baked, simplistic and for the most part, a slog. ...Read full review
