In the second installment of the Fantastic Beasts' film series, Grindelwald escapes the custody of MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America) and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Verdict: The sequel absorbs you into its wonderful world, more magical than ever. The second installment of the five-part Fantastic Beasts series is finally here. While there are ample references to Hogwarts and cameos to satisfy fans, The Crimes of Grindelwald has a lot of dense exposition thats bound to baffle others. Director David Yates tries to balance this out by making the action set-pieces engaging, but the transitions from the character conflicts to CGI sorcery are clunky at best. All the dazzling imagery and ominous atmosphere cant shake off the feeling that this is more setup than a standalone entity. However, it appears the training wheels have come off, promising that the next entry in the Fantastic Beasts saga will go full throttle into J.K. Rowlings world of wizards. If nothing else, that`s bound to ensure Potterheads will stay tuned to the franchise. ...Read full review
