Laura is a Jewish philosophy student who has fallen for Djamel, her Muslim coworker. She struggles between her rationalist principles and her feelings till she finally confronts him. On the other hand is a marriage ripping apart, Ariel (Bruno Todeschini) and Laura's sister Mathilde's (Elsa Zylberstein) troubled marital relationship reinforces the film's theme of conflict. Mathilde strictly abides by the traditions of the Torah where physical pleasure is forbidden whereas her husband has an extramarital affair because he cannot encumber his wife's modesty and ask her to do things she doesn't like.
