Verdict: A must-watch for everyone with their own veeres. Once you start watching Veere Di Wedding, you will realize that it is more than just a chick flick. It is a tale of friendships. It is a story of four friends who are as different as they can be and yet are there for each other when trouble comes knocking. The friends played by Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Shikha Talsania, and ... ...Read full review
Kalindi (Kareena Kapoor Khan), Avni (Sonam Kapoor Ahuja), Sakshi (Swara Bhasker) and Meera (Shikha Talsania) are childhood friends. Kalindi and Rishabh (Sumeet Vyas) are getting married, and the four gal pals come together for their veeres wedding. But of course, there can be no shaadi without showsha and a lot of drama. This wedding celebration brings out skeletons from the closet, unspoken truths and some harsh realities as well. ...Read full review
"Do you know who his mother is?" Three girls giggle in mock scandal after the fourth girl comes back from an unexpected tryst, and this question is posed to remind the straying girl that she has just slept with the son of a notorious gossip. The query, asked in an unmistakably Delhi vernacular ("You know na uski Ma kaun hai?) mirrors that familiar cliche of North Indian masculinity - "Jaanta nahin mera Baap kaun hai?" - where men play bully by asking others if they know who their father is, as if the asker himself was mildly concussed and had forgotten. ...Read full review
Sex in the City is an iconic show that deals with female companionship and camaraderie. There is no doubt in my mind that Veere Di Wedding was inspired by the characters and theme of this legendary TV show. Even though the sexual innuendos and expletives are tamed down to suit the desi audience, this all female ensemble of four childhood friends Avni (Sonam Kapoor), Kalinidi (Kareena Kapoor Khan), Sakshi (Swara Bhaskar), Meera (Shikha Talsania) have several moments and chapters in their life where they let go and break several stereotypes. ...Read full review
It has been an undeniable debate on gender equality especially in our Bollywood films. Not only filmmakers but the audiences have also been accepting more and more women oriented films lately but Veere Di Wedding (VDW) has an uncanny resemblance of a chic flick. Earlier directed a poor rip-off Khoobsurat, director Shashanka Ghosh tries too hard with this one and could only make it a one time watch. ...Read full review
Shashanka Ghosh`s new film Veere Di Wedding begins as a cheeky mockery of our collective West Delhiness; a film where plump Punjabi aunties spew phrases like `Soni Gudi` and `Beda Gark` and a tacky crescent moon lifts off the bride and groom from the engagement stage. Of course, there are annoying cocktail parties where a random kid sits on your lap and calls you `Chachi`. Fashioned after Zoya Akhtar`s Dil Dhadakne Do, Veere Di Wedding goes all out to make fun of hollow traditions and social pretentions, and at least for the first half, keeps the giggles coming. But like any Indian wedding with too much going on at once, the film struggles hard to hit the emotional notes. ...Read full review
Never mind Cyndi Laupers enduring feminist anthem, as far as Hindi movies go youd think its always the boys that just wanna have fun. Such a shame that 17 years since Dil Chahta Hai we still havent had the definitive female-bonding movie. Veere Di Wedding, starring Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar, and Shikha Talsania as a quartet of sassy best friends just doing their thang, is clearly intended to plug that holebut boy does it miss the mark! ...Read full review
