Alexander Lazarev is one of Russia's foremost conductors. From 1987 to 1995 Lazarev was Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Bolshoi Theatre, the first person for over thirty years to hold both positions concurrently. First prize winner of the Soviet Union's national competition for conductors and at the Karajan Competition in Berlin, Lazarev has worked with orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Royal Concertgebouw, Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, amongst others. Now Conductor Laureate, he was Principal Conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra from 2008 to 2016.
Israeli violinist and violist Nurit Stark studied in the Rubin Academy Tel Aviv, Juilliard School New York, Musikhochschule Cologne, and Universitat der Kunste Berlin. A prize winner at the G. Enescu Competition Bucharest, Chamber Music Competition Premio Trio di Trieste, and L. Mozart Violin Competition Augsburg, Stark has made solo appearances with such orchestras as the Israeli Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta, Muenchner Radio Orchestra, Bremen Philharmonic, Sao Paolo Symphonic Orchestra, and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra. She will perform Blochs only full-blown violin concerto, which is known to be a triumph of heart and intellect.
