One Direction, popularly known as 1D, is a London based English-Irish pop band. The band is composed of Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan. Zayn Malik was also a member of the band until his departure on 25th March 2015. They signed with Syco Records after The X Factor, a British singing competition, in 2010. 1D's first five albums Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), Four (2014), and Made in the A.M. (2015), topped charts worldwide and drove the band to international success. Their singles like 'Live While We're Young', 'Story of My Life', 'What Makes You Beautiful' and 'Drag Me Down' were hit too. They garnered numerous awards including four MTV Video Music Awards, seven American Music Awards, six Brit Awards and 28 Teen Choice awards.
After releasing Four in 2014, One Direction became the first band to have their first four albums as number one on the US Billboard 200. They were also named the Artist of the Year in the same year. Midnight Memories, their third album, was also the best selling album worldwide in 2013. In 2016 the band was ranked as the second highest earning celebrities by Forbes. Currently, all the members of the band are pursuing different projects because of a hiatus that began in January last year.
