Predominantly a Telugu director, who has successfully delivered commercial hits from his very first directorial venture Gamyam
, Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum
and his Bollywood venture Gabbar is Back
, Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi, has never failed to surprise audiences with unpredictable characters in his films. Known for making movies that revolve around human values and social responsibilities, Krish has quickly climbed the ladder of success with most of his movies either winning or getting nominated for prestigious awards.
Son of film producer Jagarlamudi Saibaba, Krish was born on 10 November, 1978 in a small village Vinukonda in Andhra Pradesh. His grandfather Jagarlamudi Ramanaiah was a police officer. Krish has two siblings - a sister, Suhasini, and a brother Ramana, who is a doctor. Before his success as a film director, he worked in the Finance field in the USA.
After repeatedly ignoring his mother pressurizing him for marriage, Krish ultimately agreed to get married after the success of his film Kanche. The established director found his soulmate Dr. Ramya Sai through a simple match-making process, when relatives of both sides felt they would make a good pair, and so got them to meet. They developed a liking for each other, which led them to eventually confess to their families. Overwhelmed with how well things worked out, their families got them engaged in June 2016, attended by popular stars from the film industry. The two finally got hitched in a lavish wedding ceremony on August 07, 2016.
A conversation with his driver made him realize how two people, who perceive life differently, still comply with each other, forming the basis of his directorial debut Gamyam. This interesting storyline about two travelers, starring Allari Naresh, Sharwanand
and Kamalinee Mukherjee
, made it easier for audiences to relate to the film, eventually turning it into a huge blockbuster hit. Krish`s determination to direct the movie even after several script rejections didn`t go in vain, as he won the Best Director Award at Filmfare Awards South and Nandi Awards. The film`s huge success resulted in it being remade as Kadhalna Summa Illai
in Tamil, Dui Prithibi
in Bengali, and Savaari
Krish`s second directorial venture Vedam
created quite a buzz before its release as this multi-starrer film featured an ensemble cast including popular figures like Allu Arjun
, Manoj Manchu
, Anushka Shetty
, Manoj Bajpayee
, Saranya Ponvannan
, and Lekha Washington
. Five unrelated people with completely different backgrounds end up in the same hospital where they fall prey to a terrorist attack, forming the crux of the movie`s story. Not only did critics applaud Vedam to be a pathbreaking movie with a fresh plot, but also appreciated various aspects of the film like screenplay, direction and technicalities. For the film, Krish won his second Filmfare Award. Its Tamil remake titled Vaanam
(2011), in which Krish made a cameo appearance, enjoyed a decent run at the box office.
Subsequently, he directed Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum, which got him nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Director - Telugu. After this Rana Daggubati
- Nayantara starrer, he forayed into the Hindi film industry with Gabbar is Back in 2015, which featured Akshay Kumar
, Kareena Kapoor
, and Shruti Haasan
With appreciation from critics for his choice of genre, a change from the regular action-masala film, Krish managed to create a stir with the Telugu war film Kanche
. Critics not only praised the war scenes to be authentic but also stated them to be as good as Hollywood films. It came as no surprise that the movie won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu, while Krish was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Director - Telugu.
The director`s 2017 release, the epic historical action film Gautamiputra Satakarni
, created headlines, as it marked the 100th film of lead actor Nandamuri Balakrishna
and also starred veteran actress Hema Malini
in a significant role. Based on the life of 2nd century AD Satavahana ruler Gautamiputra Satakarni, it garnered positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success.
In 2019, Krish helmed the two-part biographical drama film NTR, which was based on the life and times of legendary Tollywood actor and politician N.T. Rama Rao. The first part of the film, NTR: Kathanayakudu, followed the actor`s journey in cinema; while the second part, NTR: Mahanayakudu, chronicled his political years. In the same year, Krish directed the Bollywood historical drama Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019), which starred Kangana Ranaut in the titular role.
