Harfkaar Foundations presents famous the Italian play 'Filumena Marturano' or 'A Mother's a Mother' by Eduardo Filippo. The play opens with a former prostitute whose 25 years of unsanctified companionship to a wealthy Don has been repaid with betrayal - he is taken up with a younger woman. As the play opens, she is exulting an over triumphant bit of deception. Believing her to be on her deathbed, the Don had taken pity on her and married her, only to watch her make a sudden stunning recovery. Pressing her advantage, she reveals that it is not just for her sake that she wanted Don's name, but for that of her three grown-up sons. She had secretly paid for their upbringing with spoils stolen from the fringes of the Don's carefree lifestyle and now wants to offer them a mother's love and the Don's good name. Further, she also reveals that one of them is Don's son. The Don tries to get rid of her and her overreaching wishes, realizing in the process that he actually loves her and finally marries her - also accepting her three sons.
The adaptation of this play is a contemporary take in an urban Indian setting on the original Italian play.
