Bankapur`s Bayalata
It is the Kannada version of Manimadhukar`s Hindi play Khela Polampur., Kencha and Ningi, who represent the helpless people by suffering the consequences of the evil deeds of the mad king of Bankapura, the culmination of his queen`s perverted lust, and the cruelty of the messengers. The story is about how they not only escape themselves but also save the kingdom.
The play, which runs on the lines of Bayalata, is a contemporary political satire and has a wonderful romantic folk style of dance, including superhuman characters.
If such a play is not seen through the prism of reality it appears to be a satirical metaphor of contemporary politics and bureaucracy.
