Advait Media Productions presents the
Delhi premiere of Manav Kaul's Chuhal.
Chuhal is a light, romantic comedy between a free-thinking woman and an ordinary man bound by the shackles of his own conditioning. Set in a village with a modern mindset, Sudhir, a schoolteacher, is an eligible bachelor doing the rounds of provincial homes, looking for a bride. One such prospect, Aarti, turns him down quite firmly, but with warmth and empathy. What follows is a series of conversations as Sudhir pursues the elusive Aarti and a love story over a light-hearted exchange of thoughts, gets scripted... Chuhal is about a man whose conditioned to believe that the natural culmination of a romantic engagement is marriage; and how that man eventually goes onto realize and appreciate the perspective of a new age woman. This woman finds her completeness in love as a journey, and not marriage as the pre-conceived destination.
The
play is set in circa 1994, when the actor-director experienced his own first relationship. Is the play a narration of Kaul's own story? Come and see for yourself.
Chuhal sees Kauls return to stage after 10 years. He was last seen in Peele Scooter Wala Aadmi.
