Kafeel Jafri takes you on a journey through the tale of Yusuf and Zulekha, told in classic Daastangoi style, a 13th century Urdu oral storytelling tradition.
It's 14th Century BC. The newly bought slave of Azeez-e-Misr (Prime Minister of Egypt), Yusuf, was the most radiantly beautiful and handsome person that Zulekha has ever seen. Despite being married to the prime minister, she couldn't resist him. She tries to seduce him, but he resists and refuses. Angered, she accuses him of trying to rape her. He ends up in the dungeons. But he has a special skill: He can foresee the future by interpreting others' dreams.
In her palace, Zulekha starts getting consumed by guilt, ageing rapidly, while the love and longing for Yusuf keeps growing in her heart. But something much bigger is about to descend upon the kingdom: A long fatal drought. Yusuf's father, Yaqoob, having lost his most beloved son to what he was told was a wolf, loses his eyesight in grief of this separation. Will he ever find out that his son is alive and that destiny has bigger plans for him?
It's a long journey for Yaqoob, Yusuf, and Zulekha- A tale full of hardships, love, and longing, told in the ancient storytelling form of Daastangoi, in the Hindustani language.
