Dastan e Mirpresents the life and times ofMirTaqiMir, the greatest Urdu poet that ever lived. It is also the story of the turbulent 18th century, of the rise and fall of Empires. It narrates how Rekhta or Urdu comes to replace Persian as the language of poetry, describes the vibrant poetic culture of the times, despite the political turmoil. Poets ruled, not just over ordinary hearts, but also over rulers. They acted as companions, as narrators, as brand ambassadors, as diplomats and as raconteurs.Mirwas at the apogee of this century of Arts and literature and enjoyed countrywide fame. He was arrogant, had many lovers, male and female, celebrated life from the Sufi Khanqahs to the highest courts and was often broke too. He travelled through many cities and has left behind collected works that are more than ten times that of Ghalib, and has been feted ever since. This celebrated Dastan was composed by Darain Sahidi, Mashhood Farooqui and Mahmood Farooqui to mark the tricentenary ofMirTaqiMirin 2023 and has been performed in many cities and has been highly praised by Ravish Kumar, Vishal Bhardwaj, Swanand Kirkire, among others.
