Deep into the night of the colorful autumn of 1929, was the boy Venkataramana Karanth born to Narnappayya and Lakshmamma in the beauteous Babukodi. The boy was drawn to music from a young age, learning the basics from nature and his surroundings. An avid reader, he got into the habit of stealing and lying to support his interests.

Little was known of what would become of the boy who left to Mysuru. A legend was born when he knocked on the doors of Gubbi Company. A great journey into the world of theatre took him to Varanasi, where he learned music and Hindi. Eventually, he got married and moved to Delhi. As luck would have it, he was first a student at the NSD and went on to become its Director! He went on to establish Rangamandal at Bhopal and Rangayana at Mysuru. Such was his love for theatre, that he sowed and nurtured it through the length and breadth of the country.

BVKaranth was a thespian par excellence. He redefined and recreated theatre music which has left an everlasting impression and influence on theatre practitioners. His life in itself was no less than a play- colorful, eventful, bumpy ride through ups and downs and emotions to the brim.

‘Enagu aane ranga ninagu aane’ is a theatrical representation of the life of the magician of a thespian, BV Karanth. Based on BVK’s biography ‘Illiralare allige hogalare’ by Vaidehi and Prema Karanth’s autobiography ‘Solisabeda Gelisayya’, it has been stage adapted by Krishnaprasad and Shripathi Manjanabailu and conceptualized and directed by TS Nagabharana.
