Neekoee Foundation in collaboration with Ranga Shankara brings AHA! International Theatre Festival for Children, in Ahmedabad since past two years. Showcasing national and international productions of repute to the young audiences, the Festival has featured plays from Germany, U.K. and Switzerland, as well as local and Indian performances till now. The plays have catered to various age groups—from a 1 year old toddler to a young adult of 16 years!
This year, the AHA! International Theatre Festival for Children, scheduled between 14th to 20th July, celebrates Puppetry from across the world. Though puppetry is often seen in the public eye as children’s entertainment, people of all ages have used and enjoyed puppets for thousands of years. “All objects have a story to tell, but puppets are objects with rare power” writes puppeteer Steve Abrams. Recreating characters and stories with puppets helps children to absorb and remember what they have learned and internalise information so that they can retell the stories from the mind and the heart. Puppets make an emotional as well as cognitive connection to ideas, information, stories, characters, literature and historical & life situations. The performances are from India, Switzerland, Peru, U.K, U.S.A, and Germany.
By bringing thought-provoking productions, delivering top quality workshops, supporting local artists and providing a platform to community members and students to engage with artists of international repute Neekoee aims to widen the reach of art and culture across social, economic and cultural divides in the city.
