Jaati hi poocho sadhu ki” is a humorous story of the struggle of Mahipat from student to professor. The story proceeds with the narrative introduction of character about his life and moves further with his struggle to become a post-graduate in M.A.
Even after getting the degree the troubles never ended for him, he encounters countless rejections which made him believe that the best weapon available today in order to get a job is nepotism (shifarisism).
At-last mahipat found himself lucky as he got a call letter for interview. The story took various turns as mahipat tried to approach his dream of being a ‘Professor’.The character experienced a humorous situation as to how he cleared the interview, his efforts to protect his job and finally even after making lots of sacrifices and hard work he gets back from where he started.
The only factor instrumental for all of his life experiences is the poor caste he belongs to. The incidents and character’s experiences are not only humorous but together with that, they showed sarcastically a clear picture of a society that even making so much of progress in all the fields still there are some topics which remained untouched. The play is written by Vijay Tendulkar which clearly contradicts in terms of society what Kabir das once said:” Jaati na poocho sadhu ki”.
