Jaya - A Rock Musical of the Mahabharata

Delhi Theatre Festival Presents Jaya,
A magnum opus English-language rock musical of the Mahabharata, is produced and directed by the acclaimed theatre director Lillete Dubey and presents the major events of our favourite epic in an exciting, contemporary, and visually stunning manner. 

Expect world-class lighting by the globally renowned designer of the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, Lynne Fernandez, sets by the highly talented Fali Unwalla, costumes by the London-trained Pallavi Patel. The lead roles will be played by singer-musician-actor Sherrin Varghese, founding member of A Band of Boys; Megan Murray, a musical theatre actress who has lent vocals to Grammy-nominated blues queen Shemekia Copeland’s album Done Come Too Far; and 2Blue, a rocker who has performed with Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses, among others. The cast also includes Vikrant Chaturvedi, a veteran of stage and screen and the multi-talented Asif Ali Beg from the web series Trial by Fire, Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story. The production will feature vocalists Keshia B, Sid Makkar, Varun Narayan, Ujjayinee Roy and Danny Sura. An original music score by the multi-dimensional musician, arranger and composer Ashutosh Phatak has been specially composed with lyrics by Sandeep Kanjilal along with choreographed Kalaripayattu sequences by the Kalari guru Arpit Singh and Kathak by Pooja Pant.

JAYA presents the key events of the Mahabharata in a dramatic montage style through the eyes of Yudhishthira, the eldest Pandava brother. It examines and contrasts his experiments with truth with two divergent beliefs and viewpoints: those of Duryodhana and his faith in victory and power at any cost, and those of Karna’s fatalism and belief in an unchangeable destiny.

Brilliantly directed, designed and performed by a highly talented cast of professional singers and dancers, JAYA is a universally fascinating tale that is both contemporary and eternal. 

This is the Mahabharata for the 21st century.
