Kamla is a realistic play by Vijay Tendulkar based on a true incident (1982), focusing on changing role of women in society. It is a story about a journalist who actually bought a girl from remote area 'Luharpura' and presented her at a press conference to expose the flesh market of Madhya Pradesh. The journalist tries to capitalize the issue in order to further succeed in his career without caring about 'the object' he bought and many others like her.
The playwright throws certain sensitive questions regarding the value system of the success-oriented, modern generation. On the other hand, his daring wife Sarita, finds Kamla and herself on the same platform of sexual slavery in the society. She tries to break the barriers and prepares herself.and plans to hold a press conference to show the real face of her husband, who is pretending to be against human trafficking and sex slavery, but in reality he is the king of slaves.
