Why should you attend?
  • Going to the theatre offers a unique experience that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
  • Watching a live performance is different from watching a movie or television show.
  • Theatre opens us up to experiencing different perspectives that we may not be aware of.

Ishwar Chandra Awasthi, the elder Babu in the Municipal Corporation`s office, is a simple, honest but principled person. In the absence of his wife, he devoted his entire life to improving the life of his son Umesh. As usually happens, after marriage, Umesh got busy in his own world with his wife Rama and son Swapnesh, while Ishwar Chandra`s life got limited between home and office. Seeing retirement approaching, Awasthi ji feels lonely, he tries to get the company of his fun-loving office colleague Khare, but he does not get the happiness he was looking for. Lakshmi, a clerk in the office, who is very cheerful, is resigning from a good job in the Municipal Corporation only because she is not liking the suffocating environment of the office. Ishwar tries to know from Chandra Lakshmi the secret of her happiness, and here he gets the formula for a happy life.

Here, an MLA is trying to build a temple through a trust in the municipal grounds located near JJ Colony, populated by middle class people, which has been reserved for a primary school. Whereas the people of the colony want a park and public toilet to be built in this ground. Awasthi ji has the file of consent to build a park on this ground. The supporters of the temple, the municipal commissioner, clerk and pundits put a lot of pressure but Awasthi ji remains firm. Eventually the park is completed, but one night, amidst the silence of the night, on a bench in this park, the connection between Awasthi ji`s body and soul is severed. On the thirteenth day, when the watchman reaches home with Awasthi ji`s belongings, Umesh learns that his father was suffering from gastric cancer.

Even an ordinary person can do a lot if he has strong willpower and determination. Generally, Bade Babu in the government office is considered to be the yes man of the officers, but despite all the opposition, Ishwar Chandra Awasthi succeeds in spreading a smile on the faces of the general public by building a park on the grounds of the Municipal Corporation. In the play, despite the presence of home and family, a question also arises as to what name should be given to some unnamed relationships that fill the void of life. A question also arises that for how long will the happiness of the common people be betrayed for political gains?
