We are delighted to launch New Writing, dramatic readings of new plays by known, and less known, playwrights writing in English, Hindi, and Marathi!
We hope the programme will become a journey of discovery for audiences, and hugely valuable for writers.
About The Session:
Yugandhar Deshpande’s play – The Other Person
The growing obsession with the self, on one hand, and the crippling dependency on other people, on the other hand, is a conflict of our times. Being with someone else urges a return to a private world, and yet there is also the urge to communicate.
The play tells the story of a young woman, a delivery man, their partners, and a receptionist. They have very few words left to communicate, but they desperately want to ‘talk’ to each other. Things begin falling apart when their memory starts to fade and they can’t recognise their partners. The end is terrifying, and but still, there is a ray of hope.
