Drama | Hindi | 1hr 50mins

India's leading theater production company Felicity Theatre brings to you an extraordinary comedy - "Patte Khul Gaye", Written & Directed by the highly acclaimed film, television, and theatre personality Rakesh Bedi.

After writing many thought-provoking plays like “Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha”, “Shimla Coffee House”, “Jab We Separated”, and many other blockbusters, Rakesh Bedi comes out with yet another spectacular theatrical experience. An ingenious, funny, and brilliantly enacted masterpiece, ‘Patte Khul Gaye’ is a hilarious expose of the hypocrisies in middle-class society. This rib-tickling comedy with a large dose of Bollywood glamour stars Anant Mahadevan, Roopali Ganguli, Kishwar Merchant, Avijit Dutt, Jyoti Singhal, and Rakesh Bedi.

Patte Khul Gaye is a story of Dr. Manoj Rai (Anant Mahadevan) and his wife Manju Rai (Deepti Kumar) who have invited their close group of friends for dinner. Manju has planned a sumptuous menu for the past three days and an elaborate dinner has been prepared for this much-awaited evening.

Along with their very old friend “BOB” comes along an affluent, lady, ‘Shireen’ (Kishwar Merchant) who is extremely rich and does not belong to the middle-class strata, like the rest of them.

At one point in the play, they all reluctantly decide to play a very very funny yet dangerous game. The whole party takes a diabolically hilarious turn.

Within no time lots of masks start falling off and embarrassing secrets of one and all start tumbling out to the fore. The ultra-rich Shireen exposes the middle-class values and

hypocrisies of the others and condescendingly exposes their pitiable condition. She also tells them how the middle class is always showing off what it has and hiding under the carpet what it does not!

The lady of the house Manju refuses to buy this argument and takes Shireen head on and strongly defends the great Indian middle class.

Unexpected situations start arising and the poor hostess Manju who has toiled for three days for this dinner is unable to even serve the starters as the dinner and the party goes for a toss.

To top it all one of the guests “Akela” (Rakesh Bedi) who is a poet comes out with a funny couplet at the drop of a hat, to ease tense moments.

The play also talks about the horrendous extension that everyone has today. The mobile phone.

As we all know mobile is the extended organ of every individual today. No one can live without it. And everyone’s true personality is hidden in his or her mobile phone.

The guests that are coming to the house of Dr Manoj Rai are Akhilendra Akela and his wife Sapna. Shaam Batra and his Jyoti. Bhupender who loves to call himself BOB comes with his girlfriend Shireen Sukheja who is the wife of a very rich builder and does not belong to the middle class like all of them. And Maddi's Uncle who is slightly aged comes without his wife Uma.

All the people who are coming have conversation on the mobile going on.

For example, Akela, who is a poet gets a call from Alwar for a Mushaira but his date is not being confirmed so he gets a call again and again from the convener of the show.

Shaam who is a builder keeps getting a call on his mobile regarding a plot of land that he is in the process of buying.

Shaam’s wife Jyoti keeps getting a call from her kitty friend as she wants to pick up her kitty this month as her husband’s financial condition is poor.

All these people with their persistent phone issues reach the house of their host Dr. Manoj Rai. Here also their mobile phones keep ringing at regular intervals because their topics of discussion have not reached the conclusions.

Dr. Manoj Rai also keeps getting a call from a lady patient called Mrs. Bakshi as she wants her double chin to be shaped into a single chin. When all is finalized by the Dr. she haggles for the price. When some how Dr Manoj Rai agrees for a certain price she again haggles and becomes a big comic irritant.

A point in the play comes when all conversations start clashing and the lady of the house Manju Rai gets fed up of all of them. Shireen proposes that all of them should keep their phones on the centre table and if anybody’s phone rings, he should put it on loudspeaker and answer the phone. Overtly all agree to go ahead with this covertly all are scared to death as they all know if this happens their hidden characters will role out.

All this while Akela who is a funny poet keeps coming out with hilarious couplets every now and then. He is very jovial and comically comments on every one till his own phone rings and he too is exposed.

And when this happens and one by all start getting exposed. True character of one and all starts coming out to the fore. The first victim is MANJU Rai herself who was so vehemently advocating for this exercise. Her husband Dr. Manoj Rai proposes to end this game but by this time it’s too late.

Though all the revelations are wrapped in the superb comic style at the same time, it exposes the underbelly of our society.
