SAHIR KA KHAYAL AAYA is Pierrot’s Troupe’s unique tribute to Sahir Ludhiyanvi: The play remembers the poet and the film lyricist by dramatizing his Magnum Opus; ‘the best of his best’ -- Parchhayian.
The play is presented as a ‘Monologue’ (performed by Sumit Bhardwaj) as It showcases young Sahir – the most active pacifist poet of our times -- in the state of crafting this long poem, arguably the best and definitely the longest anti-war poem of the last 100 years.
Written by Sahir almost in the form of a ‘Drama’, the poem uniquely juxtaposes ‘Love’ and ‘War’, by re-creating the horrors of war in the backdrop of the unraveling lives of two lovers, with certain autobiographical elements not ruled out.
The solo performer is Sumit Bhardwaj who has a penchant for portraying Urdu - Hindi poets, say, Akbar Allahabadi, Sumitra Nandan Pant etc.
The play has been conceptualized and produced by Sundeep Pahwa, a ‘behind the scene man’ to many musical, literary and dramatic events in the past.
It has been directed by Dr M Sayeed Alam, who, under the banner of Pierrot’s Troupe, is credited with having given many new, original and entertaining productions to Hindi, Urdu and English theatre, including: Ghalib In New Delhi, Maulana Azad, Lal Quile Ka Aakhri Mushaira, Big B, Ghalib, K L Saigal, Sons of Babur, Ghalib Ke Khat, Shah Jahan – o- Mumtaz, The Tale of Quarles, Cut…Cut…Cut, Akbar The Great Nahin Rahe, The Tale of Taj etc.
