starring Tom Alter
Sons Of Babur -- Hindi -- This time around, the play brings Late Tom Alter back on stage – a tribute to him on his Second Death Anniversary on Sept 29. Tom Alter portrayed the lead -- Bahadur Shah Zafar – in the play in all of its 59 shows before his untimely death.
Watch his part being ‘screened’ and the rest of the play being ‘staged’ – am interesting proposition.
It is the first-ever play on the era, aura and errors of the Mughals.
It recreates Babur’s unexpected arrival in India; Humayun’s awkward exit from India and the world; Akbar’s ‘intolerance’ (to religious bigotry); Jahangir’s love for wine, women and Kashmir; Shah Jahan’s monumental love for his wife; Aurangzeb’s love for the best of the both ‘worlds’ and Bahadur Shah’s Zafar’s desire to be remembered as the ‘First Emperor of Democratic India’.
The play is written by noted politician-writer and the former External Affairs Minister of India, Salman Khurshid.
Apart from Tom Alter, it features some of the prominent actors of the country; including Dr M Sayeed Alam, Himanshu Srivastava and etc.
Last but not the least, the play is produced by Pierrot’s Troupe - the theater company credited with giving many new, original and entertaining productions to Hindi, Urdu and English Theatre: Ghalib In New Delhi, Maulana Azad, Big B, Ghalib, K L Saigal, Ghalib Ke Khat, Shah Jahan - O- Mumtaz, Pakistan Aur Alzheimer’s, The Tale of Quarles etc.
