The Reading Room blurs the boundary between audience and performers. Here the audience IS the performer. They read and they listen. They bring letters from their own personal collections and read them alongside ones the postmistress has curated from the public domain. The postmistress has researched provocative, unknown, famous, strange letters. Now she invites the audience to bring letters they wish to share from their own lives. We read a mix of the letters she curated- about the emergency, about communism, from father to son, from the war, on espionage, shipping, science with ones you bring. The idea is to share and experience the diverse worlds of these letters, together. To see what happens when letters from personal collections are read with ones from the public domain. A performance project for readers and listeners.
