Vivek Monteiro, the physicist turned trade unionist and math and science educator has an all-encompassing dream - the universalization of good quality math and science education. And while he works for the rights of labour, he also sets into place the organisations, teams, content, and processes that could make such education possible for every single young person in India.
What is 'good maths education'? Why is it important? Is it possible to have good maths education for every child?
We are delighted to invite Vivek Monteiro - trade unionist math educator - to Mumbai Local, to share with us his dream and how he is working to achieve it. With him, we will address the critical questions above and explore the history of this effort - from the amazing work of the people's science movements to Vivek's own work through Navnirmiti. We will also have some mathematical fun - just to make it real for all of us, and you know, just for fun!
We invite you to an evening of mathematical delight, where we will be taken through the simple, practical, brilliant ways in which Vivek is bent on bringing maths and science to everyone.
See you on Sunday. If you are unable to make it to the venue, do join us on the live feed.
This session is curated by Arnab Bhattacharya.
