The Karnataka Premier League is a T20 tournament conceptualized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association and approved by the BCCI. The objective is to provide a rare opportunity for raw cricket talent in the
hinterland of Karnataka and provide a platform for players to demonstrate their cricket prowess in one of the most compelling formats of the sport.
The first edition of the KPL was held in 2009 and the subsequent editions in
2010, 2014 and 2015. The matches are played under floodlights in front of packed stadiums in Hubli and Mysore and feature top cricketers such as Vinay Kumar, Robin Uthappa, KL Rahul, Stuart Binny, Karun Nair, Abhimanyu Mithun
and Mayank Aggarwal to name a few.
There are 8 franchises that will take part in the 2016 edition, sponsored by Karbonn Mobile and powered by Cycle Pure Agarbathies, including an "All Star" team –
Rockstars captained by Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep. All matches are aired Live on Sony Six, the official and exclusive broadcaster of the Karnataka Premier League.
