MITR Winter Run 2016
MITR Hospital, Kharghar brings its second edition of a running event aptly named MITR Winter Run - a 5 km/10 km run on 4th December 2016. As the running season attains its peak in December, the doctors of MITR Hospital desire to replicate the success of their first edition - MITR Monsoon run 2015.
Previously MITR Monsoon Run created awareness about kidney stones. Likewise, this year's winter run focuses on obesity. Filled with fun and frolic, it plans to create awareness about obesity with peppy health talks in schools, colleges and societies. It culminates into an awareness run to inspire people to hit the road. The goal is to make people develop a healthy habit of a walk/run on a daily basis to fight growing obesity in the general population.
Obesity is simple to understand once we know about body mass index (BMI).
BMI = Weight in Kilograms / Height in meters 2
Obesity is a growing health problem in both children and adults. Consuming too many calories, sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity, inadequate sleep and obesity genes are some of the reasons for growing obesity in our population. Also, the longer a person is overweight, the harder it becomes for them to lose weight.
