Saksham Pedal Delhi 2018

Saksham Pedal Delhi is India’s Premier Cyclothon, that aims to propagate the importance of fuel conservation and efficient energy utilization, amongst the citizens of our Nation's Capital.

In an effort to instill socio-environmental consciousness, Saksham Pedal Delhi is an initiative by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), set up in 1978 under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India, engaged in promoting energy efficiency in various sections of the economy, in collaboration with DoIT Sports and OIL & Gas companies..

The iconic Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium will host the event, scheduled for the7th of October 2018and will also create a competitive platform for India’s finest elite athletes. In Association with  Meraki Sport & Entertainment and Times of India, Saksham Pedal Delhi will leverage sport to create mass awareness for the conservation of petroleum products.

With the technical expertise of Cycling Federation of India, Saksham Pedal Delhi will see participation in excess of 6000 cyclists across 4 race categories:

Elite - Criterium race for athletes registered to and/or licensed by CFI 

Amateur – A competitive timed mass-start race, with two subcategories:

o  Road

o  MTB / Hybrid

Open Ride - Timed non-competitive race, open to cycling enthusiasts across age groups

Green Ride – Non-timed participative event category, to experience the joy of cycling

1. T-shirt sizes may vary basis the brand and they will be made available as per the size selected by the participant during registration. No size exchanges will be carried out at the Rider Pack Collection and/or Event Day.

2. The rider pack shall only be given against an ID proof to be displayed at the time of the Rider Pack Collection. Valid ID proofs are Pan Card, Aadhar Card, Passport, Driving License or Voter ID.

3. Participants will receive 2 wristbands for their family/friends upon registration. Additional wristbands will be made available at the Rider Pack Collection at cost.

4. Race Timings & Route are subject to changes basis confirmation and approval from the concerned authorities.


1. What is the minimum age for participation?

The minimum age for each ride is given below:

Amateur Race – 18 years

Open Ride - 15 years

Green Ride - 12 years

2. What is the reporting time for the event?

This will depend on the ride category that you have signed up for and its allocated time as

mentioned on the website. All participants need to be at the event venue 60 minutes

before the commencement of their respective rides.

4. What are the registration fees?

The registration fees for each ride category is given below:

Amateur Race – INR 1200

Open Ride – INR 1000

Open Ride with Cycle on Rent – INR 1472

Green Ride – INR 200

Green Ride with Cycle on Rent – INR 672

*Rental cycles are subject to availability (First Come First Serve Basis) and will be at an additional

cost. The cost of rental cycles is controlled by the cycle dealers and the event does not hold any

responsibilities for the increase in rental charges.

Cycles will be made available at the venue rental bays on the day of the event. *

5. What are the criteria for taking part in the Amateur Race?

The criteria for taking part in the Amateur Race are:

The rider must be above the age of 18 years

The Rider must get his own cycle (MTB/Hybrid/Road) depending on the category he/she has

registered for.

6. What are the criteria for taking part in the Indian Elite Race?

Participation in the Indian Elite Race is by invite only.

7. How do I participate in the Open Ride at Saksham Pedal Delhi?

The criteria for taking part in the Open Ride are:

The rider must be above the age of 15 years

8. Can I take part in both the MTB/Hybrid & Road categories in the Amateur Race?

No, you cannot

9. Can I ride with somebody else’s Bib number?

No, you cannot

10. What if I register but cannot take part?

In case participants are unable to take part, the registration amount will be non-


11. What do I wear?


Cycling shoes, shorts and jerseys are recommended for your safety and convenience, but

you can wear what you like. Many people dress up to make it a fun day, but please take

your own and other riders’ safety into account, when dressing up in a costume. Please also

note that this is a family event and your choice of clothing should be appropriate.


Helmets are compulsory. We will provide Helmets to all the participants.

12. What kind of bicycle would you recommend?

Any traditional bicycle will do, so long as it is road-worthy. Only in the Amateur Race it is

compulsory that you either have an MTB/ Hybrid bike or a ROAD bike, depending on the

race category you have registered for.

13. What do I do if I have to get a bicycle on rent?

Cycles will be made available at the Venue Rental Bays on the day of the event. Do note the

rentals are subject to availability and will be at an additional cost. The cost of rental cycles

is controlled by the cycle dealers and the event does not hold any responsibilities for the

increase in rental charges.

Upon completion of the payment process, you would receive your unique number/ ticket/

sticker on the BiB itself to be presented at the Rental Bay on event day at the venue.

Upon presenting the unique number/ ticket/ sticker, a cycle shall be issued to you only for

the Race Day against a valid ID proof (Passport, PAN, Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Driving License)

that will be kept in our possession.

Only after returning the cycle at the Rental Bay, you would receive the ID proof back.

Note: Cycles will be made available on rent for only the Open Ride & Green Ride race


14. How can I confirm the status of my entry?

After you register online you will receive an e-mail confirming your entry. If you are unsure

15. Where do I collect my Bib(chest) number?

Details of venue and Bib collection would be shared on email closer to the “Event Rider

Pack” collection day, so please look out for emailers from the event.

16. What route does the Saksham Pedal Delhi Event follow?

Route map shall be available on www.sakshampedaldelhi.com once it has been finalized.

Distances are subject to change basis final approval from the concerned authorities.

17. What precautions are being taken regarding traffic on the day of the event?

All involved roads will be sanitized for the duration of the event by the organizers and the

respective authorities.

18. What if I decide during the ride that I cannot continue?

There is a sweeper vehicle that follows the route. Move off the course and wait for the

sweeper vehicle or you can stop at any of the official pitstops.

19. What happens to me if I am in an accident?

If you are in an accident on the route, our medical team will attend to you. If you are able

to, you can continue towards the finish line or you can wait to be picked up by the sweeper

vehicle. If you are seriously injured, you will be attended to by our paramedic’s team and

taken to the nearest hospital. It is therefore very important to ensure that your medical

and emergency details are correctly updated and that you ride with your own bib number.

20. If I am in an accident and have to go to the hospital in an ambulance, what happens to my

  • Age Category:
    • Amateur Hybrid/MTB/Road – 18 & Above

    • Open Ride – 15 & Above

    • Green Ride – 12 & Above

  • The Participants will have to collect their Bibs at the Rider Pack Collection/Expo on the 5th & 6th of October at the Jawaharlal Nehru Weightlifting Stadium, New Delhi.
  • Participants need to carry a valid, Government recognized photo identity card with them to collect his/her Rider Pack.
  • If the participant is unable to make it in person, an authorized representative can collect it on his/her behalf. This representative must carry with him/her (a) a signed authorization letter from the participant, (b) website confirmation and (c) the identity proof (Pan Card, Aadhar card, Driving License, Passport or Voter ID) of the participant.
  • The participants for Amateur & Open Ride will receive a set of two Bibs. One would be with a timing chip to be put on the cycle. The second one would be for the participant to pin on the front/back of their T-shirts.
  • The participants for the Green ride will receive one Bib to be pinned to the front/back of their T-shirts.
  • The timed category participants need to collect their timed Bibs and move to the timing/data verification counter, to activate the chip, at the Rider Pack Collection. The chips will record event day cycling time only if it has been checked and activated at the timing / data verification counter. Please do ask the volunteers present at the venue in case of any queries or clarifications.

  • The participant can request for up to 2 extra wrist bands for his/her family & friends to attend the Event at the Bib collection counter.
  • Participant’s registered details will be linked to their respective Bib numbers. A Participant cannot exchange or transfer his/her Bib to someone else. 
  • Race Category once selected by the participant cannot be changed.
  • The Bib should not be cut, folded, altered, defaced or otherwise modified.
  • Any participant found without a Bib or wearing the incorrect Bib will be disqualified from the race and removed from the course by the course marshals.
  • Timing certificates will be issued to participants only if the participant completes the race within the stipulated time.
  • All participants will be provided with a Helmet at the Rider Pack Collection. It is compulsory for the participants to wear the helmet during the race. A participant without a Helmet will not be allowed to participate in the race.
  • Participants can only compete in the race category they have registered for. Participating in any other race category will not accrue any benefits of the race to the Participant. 
  • The technical committee’s decision on the results is final and binding.
  • The Organizers reserve the right to stop any participant from participating who is found to be medically unfit to continue in the opinion of the medical personnel.
  • All participants need to report at least 45 minutes prior to the start of their race. Participants opting for rental cycles must report at least 90 minutes prior to the start of their race.
  • Rental Cycles are only available for Open & Green Ride participants at cost on a first come first serve basis.
  • Participants who have opted for rental cycles will be provided with Customized Bibs. These can be collected at the Rider Pack Collection. The participant needs to show the customized cycling Bib at the Rental Bay on Event Day i.e. 7th October 2018.
  • Along with presenting the Bib the participant will also be required to submit a valid original ID card viz. (Pan Card, Aadhar Card, Passport, Driving License, Voter ID) that will be kept in the Organiser’s possession, post which the participant will be allotted the cycle for the race. The rental cycle is the participants responsibility and must be returned in the same condition as was allotted. The participant will have to bear the cost of damages, if any.

  • After the completion of the race, the participant will be required to return the rental cycle at the Rental Bay and collect his/her ID card.
  • Participants will be disqualified if they do not start at the designated race/ride category and time assigned by the organizer

  • Participants are requested to register for the event with care. Confirmed registrations are non-refundable, non-transferrable and cannot be modified. Participants should provide a secure email address that they access regularly during the time of registration, as this will be the primary means of contacting them during the run up to the event.

  • Any notice sent to the email address registered shall be deemed as received by the cyclist.

  • Participants are requested to fill out only those fields that are necessary for mailing purposes and not provide redundant data in multiple fields.

  • By registering the Participant agrees and acknowledges that long distance cycling is an extreme sport and can be injurious to body and health and that they have undertaken necessary training for the event.

  • The Participant assumes all risks associated with participating in this event including, but not limited to, falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather, including high heat or humidity, traffic and the condition of the road, arson or terrorist threats and all other risks associated with a public event.

  • The Participant agrees to abide by the instructions provided by the organizers from time to time in the best interests of your health and event safety.

  • The Participant also agrees to stop cycling, even if there is no reason cited, if instructed by the Race director or the medical staff or by the aid station volunteers.

  • The Participant confirms that he/she has filled in correct details of his/her medical condition to the best of his/her knowledge and ability, as requested in order to assist them in case of an emergency.

  • The Participant confirms that his/her name and media recordings taken during your participation may be used to publicize the Event.

  • The Participant understands that confirmed registrations and merchandise orders are non-refundable, non-transferrable and cannot be modified. The organizers reserve the right to reject any application without providing reasons. Any amount collected from rejected applications alone will be refunded in full (excluding bank charges wherever applicable).

  • The organizers will contact the participants only by email or phone number. Any notice sent to the email address or phone number registered with the Organizers shall be deemed as received by the participant.

  • The Participants acknowledge that BookMyShow merely enables a transaction between them and the event organizers and is not liable for any payment related issues.

  • Once a transaction is completed, BookMyShow and/or the Organizers are not liable to process any refunds under any circumstances.

  • For any refunds, grievances, claims and questions related to the event and its execution please contact the event Organizer.

Waiver Form

I acknowledge that the cycling event conducted on 7th of October 2018 by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) hereinafter called (“Organizers”) is an extreme test of a person’s physical and mental limits and carries with it the potential risk of death, serious injury and property loss. There are both known and unanticipated risks. The known risks include, but are not limited to travails by road, temperature, weather, the physical and mental condition of the participants including my own physical and mental condition, my acts or omissions or failure to act, first aid, emergency treatment or other services rendered, consumption of food or drink, lack of hydration, latent or apparent defects or conditions in any equipment or property supplied by the Organizers, or other persons and/or entities, vehicular traffic and actions of other people including any other external events. I understand and acknowledge that the above listing is not complete or exhaustive, and that other risks, known or unknown, identified or unidentified, anticipated or unanticipated, foreseeable or unforeseeable, may also result in injury, or damage to myself or property, and I expressly accept and acknowledge those risks not specifically listed above as well.

I expressly agree, covenant, and promise to accept and assume all responsibility and risk for injury, death, illness or disease, damage to myself or to property, to participants, spectators or to other third parties and their property, arising from or relating to my participation in the Organizers - sponsored practices, activities and/or events and all related activities. I am voluntarily electing to participate in, attend, Organizers - sponsored activities and/or events in spite of these risks. I certify that I am physically fit, have sufficiently trained for participation in Organizers - sponsored practices, activities and/or events and have not been advised otherwise by a qualified medical person. I irrevocably waive, release and forever discharge from any and every claim, demand, action or right of action of whatever nature or kind and all liability of any kind which may hereafter accrue to me in connection with my participating in, Saksham Pedal Delhi - sponsored practices, activities and/or events, Organizers - their past, present and future directors, officers, members, employees, servants, volunteers, representatives, and agents, event holders, event sponsors, event directors, event volunteers, and event officials, (collectively the “Releases”)

I HEREBY WAIVE, RELEASE, DISCHARGE, HOLD HARMLESS AND PROMISE TO INDEMNIFY AND NOT TO SUE the Releases and the sponsors of Organizers - sponsored practices, activities and/or events, the Organizers and, and employees through or by which practices and/or events will be held, (the foregoing are also collectively deemed to be Releases) FROM ANY AND ALL RIGHTS AND CLAIMS INCLUDING CLAIMS ARISING FROM THE RELEASEE’S OWN NEGLIGENCE.

Riders consent to the use of all photographic or video material pertaining to their participation in the said event made by the Organizers or their assignees during any activity by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) at any time in the present or future.
