The India Cements Ltd. Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is a Twenty20 cricket tournament
conceptualized and hosted by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).
The tournament, which was launched with much fanfare in 2016. The groundbreaking event is all set for a rollicking second season, which is set to kick off on July 22, and played across three venues (Chennai, Dindigul and Tirunelveli).
Last year, the India Cements Ltd. TNPL provided thrilling T20 action to fans across the state as well as the country. This was made possible thanks to the partnership with Star Sports network. The league helped unearth raw local talent from Tamil Nadu. The second season of the league, which continues to be sponsored by a host of top brands including The India Cements Ltd. (Title Sponsor), promises to be bigger and better.
With eight teams fighting for top honours from July 22nd to August 22nd, the teams represent eight districts from Tamil Nadu. The franchises include Chepauk Super Gillies, Albert TUTI Patriots, Lyca Kovai Kings, Dindigul Dragons, VB Thiruvallur Veerans, Ruby Trichy Warriors, Karaikudi Kaalai, and Madurai Super Giant.
Defending champions Albert TUTI Patriots are led by Dinesh Karthik, while runners-up Chepauk Super Gillies have R Sathish at the helm. Dindigul Dragons are led by India spinner R Ashwin, whereas Lyca Kovai Kings have the dashing Indian opener Murali Vijay marshalling the troops. Karaikudi Kalaai have the experienced S Badrinath leading their campaign, while VB Thiruvallur Veerans has the sole TNPL centurion Aparjith B in-charge. His twin brother Indrajith B is leading Ruby Trichy Warriors, whereas Arun Karthik leads the Madurai Super Giant.
India Cements Ltd. TNPL 2 will kickstart with a high-octane match between Albert TUTI Patriots taking on the Dindigul Dragons. The match is scheduled to be held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on July 22, 2017. In addition to this the grand finale will be held at the venue. The tournament spans 30 days across three venues in Chennai
, Dindigul and Tirunelveli. The TNPL has been designed with each team playing seven matches with the top four teams qualifying for the semifinals.
