Samantha began her musical journey on stage at the age of five. She turned 'professional' at fourteen. Over the last 25 years Samantha has performed at close to a thousand live gigs, and on several hundred films and advertisement jingles. Samantha performed on Coke Studio's Season 3 in 2013.
In 1993, Samantha was part of the band MANTRA which went to release their maiden album in 1996 titled 'Jantar Mantar' which was followed by the release of 3 videos that received airplay on MTV and Channel [V].
Between the mid 90s and early 2000s, being part of a number of live bands and singing varied genres from Jazz to R&B, Pop to Country, Motown to Rock and Folk to Blues, a style emerged that allowed songs to be jazzed up.
In 2001, Samantha pieced together her Jazz and Blues band Samantha Edwards with Take 4. The band opened the international Jazz Yatra in 2002 and over the last fourteen years has performed at several music festivals across India.
Samantha has held her own concerts in Mumbai at the National Centre for Performing Arts, paying tribute to 'The Women in Jazz' and on other occasions reliving the music of artistes like 'Whitney Houston'.
She has performed or collaborated with artistes like Carlos Santana, George Brooks, Louiz Banks, Dana Gillespie, Ranjit Barot, Barbara Morrison and several others. Internationally, Samantha has performed in Dubai, Muscat, New York and L.A.
Samantha has performed for a variety of clients including Rolls Royce, Chivas Regal, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Bentley, Johnnie Walker, Toyota Motors, Microsoft, Louis Vitton, Accenture and the Tata Group of Companies.
Samantha has been a part of Bollywood since turning professional. She has served as Vice President of the Cine Singers' Association for ten years. Over the last 25 years, she has lent her voice as a Playback Singer and the Western Chorus. Her voice features on several films including Chak De!, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Dhoom 1, 2 and 3, The Lion King (dubbing), High School Musical (dubbing). As a playback singer, she has sung on films like 12B, Kaante, Mr. & Mrs. Iyer, For Real and Everybody Says I'm Fine.
Samantha has worked with music directors and producers like A R Rahman, Mani Ratnam, Shankar Ehssan Loy, Pt. Zakir Hussain, Ram Sampath, Vishal Bharadwaj, Clinton Cerejo, Salim Sulaiman, Pritam, Vishal Shekhar, Himesh Reshammiya, Nadeem Shravan, Jatin Lalit, Aadesh Srivastava and others.
Samantha is a leading vocal and soft skills instruction provider, having trained close to 1000 students till date. She has initiated children as early as 9 months into music. Several students often go on to choose higher paths of study in music, internationally.
Samantha holds a Bachelors and Masters in Arts. She also holds two Licentiates in Music Performance and Music Teaching. Although pre-dominantly a 'Western' singer, Samantha has trained in Indian Classical Singing and for 3 years also studied the internationally renowned Kodaly Method. Since 1996, over several trips to the United States, Samantha has studied Voice privately with jazz and vocal greats like Grammy Winner Peter Eldridge, Grammy Nominee Roseanna Vitro, Bob Stoloff, Barry Harris, Norman Simmons, and Judy Niemack. Samantha has also studied Voice at North Central University in Chicago through Janice Borla and Jay Clayton.
