Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, born on 1st July 1938, is internationally renowned as one of the greatest ''Bansuri'' players. He is a musician who has revolutionized the flute idiom and given it new classical dimensions. He has been the recipient of our country's highest honours and has won accolades for his performances and interacted with western musicians all over the world. He is recipient of Sangeet Natak Academy (1984), Konark Samman (1992), Padma Bhushan (1992), Yash Bharti Samman (1994) & Padma Vibhushan (2000). Born on 9th March 1958, Padma Bhushan Ustad Zakir Hussain has been performing since the age of 12 with his renowned father Ustad Alla Rakha. A classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have been appreciated all over the world. He is considered to be a chief architect of the contemporary world music movement and has has compose and recorded with most of the top international music makers. He has received numerous awards and titles like the Padma Shri in 1988, and the Padma Bhushan in 2002. In 1992, his album, 'Planet Drum' was awarded the first-ever Grammy for Best World Music Album.

A Swedish heavy metal band founded in Stockholm, Opeth dates back to 1990. After several personnel changes, singer, guitarist, and songwriter Mikael kerfeldt is Opeth`s mainstay from almost the beginning. Rooted in Scandinavian death metal, this progressive band counts folk, blues rock and jazz among its influences. Their songs are usually lengthy, featuring acoustic guitar interludes and strong dynamic shifts. Vocals vary pleasingly from growling to clean. Not having toured much during their first four albums, Opeth`s first world tour came on the heels of Blackwater Park (2001). With 9 studio albums, 2 live albums, 2 box sets, and 2 DVDs to their credit, Opeth has never before visited India. They will be showcasing the best of their dazzling array at the Saarang Golden Edition. Opeth`s ninth studio album, Watershed, was released on June 3, 2008 and entered the Billboard 200 at number 23. A famous ghazal singer, Jagjit Singh is known to sing in many languages including Nepali and Bengali. He has also sung for various Bollywood movies, including Arth, Premgeet and Saath Saath. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award in 2003.

Apart from being well known in their respective category, they were very popular as a duo called " SHIVHARI" Their first composition was a non-film album "Call of the Valley" (1967), post which they did a couple of non -film albums. They got noticed for their music compositions of films including "Silsila", Chandni, Darr, Parampara and Lamhe. This evening will see them performing light melodies- including film, folk, classical. The Rotary Club of Bombay Central (RCBC) has put together a Fusion Concert called The Asia Electric Concert, featuring jazz artist Louis Banks, percussionist Sivamani and noted sitar virtuoso Niladri Kumar. The concert in aid of RCBC`s many charity endeavors, including activities for underpriveleged children and tribals. RCBC is one of the premier and prestigious clubs of District 3140 today, with more than 130 members. Well known for social and charity work in the Rotary Circles, RCBC works in the city of Mumbai as well as the rural villages and has been focussed on enhancing and supporting children education programmes, by developing computer labs, medical aid like eye camps, mid day meals, etc. RCBC has also tied up with Life of Light Foundation and Friends of Tribal Society.

The festival was first held in 2006 and continues to showcase the wonders of the Drupad tradition. This year the performing artists include 1) Irshad Khan - He is considered among the world`s best Sitar players and the leading Surbahar (Bass Sitar) player of his generation and among the finest instrumentalists of the world. 2) Pandit Krishna Ram Chaudary - the famous Shehnai player has learnt the nuances of Raga-exposition and higher technique of Shehnai playing at the feet of the great Vocalist of Benaras Gharana, late Pandit Mahadeva Prasad Mishra. 3) Shanno Khurana - She excels in the entire gamut of Hindustani musical forms. Her Khayal recitals are marked by their deeply affecting plaintive vilambit compositions that are contrasted with vivid drut and taranas. She sings thumris and dadras with the typical lilt and poignant depth of the poorab-ang.
