Privilege Hospitality Events is organizing a trip to Khanderi (Kanhoji Angre Island). Located 5 km off Thal/ Kihim and 20 km south of Mumbai, Khanderi along with its twin sea fort Underi formed the major fortification along the Maharashtra coast. The Khanderi & Underi Islands are about 18/20 nautical miles south of Mumbai. The Khanderi fort was built in 1678 built by the Portuguese on a small island off the Kihim & Alibaug coast. This fort was later occupied by Marathas under Kanhoji Angre`s control, the erstwhile Admiral of Chatrapati Shivaji Navy. Later, a lighthouse was erected by the British in 1852 after they conquered the fort... Kanhoji Angre Lighthouse is one of the oldest and very less explored lighthouses near Mumbai. The lighthouse stands 48 feet tall and provides signals to the distant ships in the sea. The great lamp reveals its wonders when you have climbed to its level up many narrow winding stairs.
Visitors can see the iron canons with cart wheels at Khanderi, which are rarely found in Maharashtra. Kanhoji Angre is one of the oldest and very less explored lighthouses near Mumbai. The journey would commence from Gateway of India by ferry to Mandwa and boat from Thal village to Khanderi Island. A calm boat ride from Thal village to Khanderi Island gives spectacular view of surrounding landscape. Enjoy sumptuous lunch with wide spread of delicacies including locally prepared seafood that is the quintessential part of the region.
