About
Babu Ram Ishara was an Indian film director and screenwriter, primarily known for his work during the 1970s. Hailing from Himachal Pradesh, Ishara came to Mumbai as a boy when his name was still Roshanlal Sharma. He began working as a tea server on film sets but soon went on to become a spot boy and eventually, when his way with words made an impression, a dialogue writer. As a screenwriter, he earned the pen name Babu Ram Ishara. Some of his best works include Log Kya Kahenge (1982), Milap (1972) and Woh Phir Aayegi (1988). His films were known for tackling taboo subjects at the time. Sautela Bhai (1996) was a critically acclaimed movie. Actress Parveen Babi and composer Bappi Lahiri were introduced by him, amongst many other film industry names. The widely respected filmmaker passed away in July 2012.
