The NCPA pays tribute to excellence in the arts by showcasing the artistry of the legendary Malavika Sarukkai, celebrated in India and overseas for the distinctive and meditative quality she brings to her choreographies in Bharatanatyam.
Sarukkai's choreographies are known for the energised articulation of a contemporary mind. With her mastery and technique, she continues to command a distinctive presence on the world stage, from the time she inaugurated the Festival of India in 1982 as the youngest solo dancer. Over the years, she has chiselled her art and its expression to choreograph a vast canvas of themes from the traditional to the contemporary.
This evening will showcase the depth and richness of Sarukkai's path-breaking repertoire with each choreography uniquely interpreted, marking her individualistic style of dance often described as dynamic meditation.
