Inspired by the musical traditions of the Silk Road, this dynamic performance reimagines centuries-old sounds through electronics and improvisation.
From Amsterdam to stages across the world, ‘Afro Anatolian Tales’ weaves a vibrant tapestry of sound that transcends borders and centuries. Founded by Dutch-Turkish percussionist Sjahin During, the ensemble brings together artists and influences from Anatolia, Iran, India, and beyond, creating performances that are at once deeply rooted and constantly evolving.
Featuring Burak Savaş on vocals and violin, Bence Huszar on cello and electronics, Antonio Moreno on synthesiser and trumpet, Sjahin During on percussion, and Vanraj Shastri on vocals and sarangi, the ensemble draws on a wide range of cultural traditions. Their internationally acclaimed sound has earned recognition from the BBC and Songlines, reflecting a distinctive musical language shaped by curiosity, experimentation, and artistic exchange.
No two performances are the same. Traditional melodies and rhythms intertwine with electronic textures and live improvisation, responding to the energy of audience and setting. The result is a living dialogue between East and West, inviting listeners into a cinematic musical landscape where heritage and innovation meet in unexpected ways.
