About The Event

Through solos and duets, Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awardees Shashwati Garai Ghosh and Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya explore the emotions and experiences that have guided their journeys as dancers.

Years of practice, performance, and lived experience shape a dancer’s relationship with her art. In its fourth edition, ‘Anubhav’ delves into the discoveries that become part of a dancer’s creative journey, bringing together Odissi dancer Shashwati Garai Ghosh and Bharatanatyam dancer Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya.

The performance explores the distinct movement vocabularies of Bharatanatyam and Odissi, coming together through rhythm, storytelling, technique, poetry, and emotions. The dancers share their experiences through original creations presented as solos, alongside duets created by Sharmila Biswas for the duo. Through their dynamic exchange and collaboration, the duet reveal the shared sensibilities and inherent connections between the two classical forms.

Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya is a senior disciple of Chitra Visweswaran for over four decades. Her practice is shaped by her training in Bharatanatyam, nattuvangam, dance theory and stagecraft, as well as her architectural education and observations of everyday life. She performs, choreographs and teaches at Pravaaha, her dance centre in Chennai.

Shashwati Garai Ghosh, a senior disciple of Sharmila Biswas since 1999, is known for her refined technique and distinctive artistic voice. Her institute Angashuddhi – Home for Odissi in Kolkata, is dedicated to rigorous training, research, and the transmission of the form. Her work is marked by strong aesthetics and a nuanced approach to Odissi.

This performance is supported by Reliance Foundation.
