About The Event
Voice and verse come together in acclaimed vocalist Anurag Sharma’s three-act presentation of classic Urdu and Hindi poetry set to timeless melodies.
Known for his classical training, expressive vocal style and flair for improvisation, vocalist Anurag Sharma leads ‘Awaaz Aur Alfaaz’ through an evening of geets, ghazals and Sufi compositions, exploring the enduring connection between poetry and song.
The evening unfolds in three distinct moods, beginning with romantic songs and poetry by Ghalib, Faiz and Dagh, evoking the warmth of a mehfil through acoustic guitar and flute. The mood then shifts to classic ghazals, where nostalgia and yearning find expression through Sharma’s harkats and taans, before culminating in a vibrant Sufi finale with vocal-percussion jugalbandi and the full ensemble.
Spoken commentary and literary insights illuminate the poetry behind each piece, while spontaneous improvisations lend the renditions their own character. Sharma is joined by Chintu Singh on guitar, Vishal Dhumal on keyboards, Ninad Mulaonkar on flute and Mani Bhardwaj on tabla.
This performance is supported by Reliance Foundation.
