Renjith & Vijna invite you into a deeply moving Bharatanatyam journey where devotion meets doubt, surrender meets strength, and the Divine Mother reveals herself as a force of transformation.
Presented as a single flowing Bharatanatyam journey, ‘Bhakti Vashya – An Ode to the Universal Mother’ by Renjith & Vijna explores devotion in its many forms—from prayer and surrender to doubt, courage and transcendence.
The performance opens with an alarippu and a verse from the ‘Soundarya Lahiri’, creating a devotional space around the Divine Feminine and her relationship with the cosmos. It then moves to Syama Sastri’s ‘Raa Ve Himagiri Kumari’, an intimate invocation of Goddess Kamakshi. In Papanasam Sivan’s ‘Naan Oru Vilayattu Bommaiya’, the mood shifts as the devotee turns to the Divine Mother with vulnerability, questioning suffering and divine will. The presence of Goddess Kali follows, bringing in her fierce grace as a force that dissolves fear and ego. The presentation concludes with Svaravali by Padma Bhushan awardee and guru of Renjith & VijnaC. V. Chandrasekhar, where rhythm and melody take over, allowing the form to move into pure experience.
Renjith & Vijna are a distinguished Bharatanatyam dance duo known for their clarity of form, expressive depth and thoughtful approach to tradition. Their work moves between traditional margam presentations and original thematic productions, bringing mythic narratives and abstract ideas into a performance space.
Through poetry, music and movement, ‘Bhakti Vashya’ presents bhakti as a living conversation between the devotee and the Divine Mother, one that holds surrender, questioning, transformation and the search for the infinite.
