About the workshop:


From Hitchcock`s suspenseful close-ups in "Psycho" to Coppola`s masterful long takes in "The Godfather," every frame is a canvas of storytelling. "Sholay" demonstrates the power of wide shots to capture epic landscapes and dynamic action sequences. And, "Jurassic Park" showcases Spielberg`s innovative use of special effects within carefully crafted compositions.

This film appreciation workshop will delve into the art of shot divisions, highlighting iconic scenes from classics like "Psycho," "The Godfather," "Sholay," and "Jurassic Park.”

Participants will break-down and analyze the meticulous framing and sequencing of shots, exploring how directors use camera angles, movements, and editing techniques to evoke emotions and convey narratives effectively.

Through discussions and hands-on activities, attendees gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of cinematography, learning to decode visual language and its impact on cinematic experiences. This workshop is a journey through cinematic history, where each frame tells a story of its own.

About Tathagata Chowdhury:


Tathagata Chowdhury, a co-founder of Theatrecian, is an award winning theatre actor and director with over 25 years of experience in acting, direction and playwriting in theater. He also has a Diploma in film direction from NIFFA, is an IBDP Film Examiner and has featured in 5 international film festivals.

Tathagata has produced 200 plays including the works of Kalidasa, Harold Pinter, Edward Albee, Tom Stoppard, as well as original plays. He has acted under the direction of Mr. Shyamanand Jalan, Satyadev Dubey, Alyque Padamsee, Rohit Pombra, Rebecca Gould, and others.

As a workshop instructor, Tathagata has conducted production oriented workshops in more than 100 schools and colleges such as IIT Kharagpur and St. Xaviers College Mumbai, and conducted workshops at National School of Drama, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute of India.

Tathagata has a Diploma certification from the Royal Shakespeare Company (2014) and was asked to represent India in the South Asian Theatre Festival in Ohio, USA.

Having co-founded Theatrecian while still at law school, Tathagata is also a public speaker and an avid marathoner (50 finisher marathon medals).
