Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande (vocal) with Rutuja Lad (vocal support & tanpura), Sharayu Date (vocal support &tanpura), Vyasmurti Katti (harmonium) & Yati Bhagwat (tabla) Over the centuries, Indian music has thrived on account of the guru-shishya parampara, carrying forth the artistic legacy from one generation to the next in an unbroken manner.
Initially trained by Narayanrao Datar, Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande was groomed in Jaipur Atrauli style by her mother, Manik Bhide, and Ratnakar Pai, a notable exponent and Guru in this tradition. Today, she is known for her effortless exposition of complex (achhop) ragas with pleasing tonal quality and emotiveness.
Although a classicist by temperament and training, she is equally at ease with lighter genres of music. She has travelled extensively all over the globe participating in various prestigious music conferences and her live concerts have been acclaimed for the sheer presentation delight, as much as for the aesthetic and musical quality.
Her albums have been released by several national and international record labels.
As a composer, she has published two volumes of compositions, an effort which has been lauded for its musical creativity and artistic presentation.
Additionally, as a committed guru, she devotes quality time to train several disciples, assuring continuity of the Jaipur style of music. In fact, she is one of the gurus under ‘NCPA-Citi support to guru-shishya tradition’ program.
In this recital Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande along with her senior disciples, Rutuja Lad and Sharayu Date will explore the musical landscape with a few forms of Hindustani music: khayal, thumri, bhajan.
