Where Stories Come Alive
An evening with Vipul Rikhi as he narrates familiar and alien tales of love melted with folk tunes from the Bhakti and Sufi traditions. The songs are picked from across languages and delicately placed into English for the audience.
Singer, poet, storyteller and translator, Vipul Rikhi has been exploring the poetic legacy of Sufi and Bhakti music for over a decade. An interest that was provoked during his scholarly work on the Kabir Project, mystic music and its surrounding culture became a widening curiosity that mutated into several full length frontier-deficient shows. Dastan-e-Ishq is one of these emotionally vibrant yet ambiently sombre endeavors.
