Discover three emerging voices in Indian contemporary dance as they explore identity, connection, resilience and belonging through movement.
Emerging Voices brings together three distinct works by emerging choreographers from the Emerging Choreographers platform at Hrishikesh Pawar’s Prayatna Film and Dance Festival, which has nurtured new voices in contemporary dance for over 16 years. In 2026, the platform was supported by NARTHAKI and Dr Anita Ratnam.
In Smile, Kunaal Sangtani and troupe (Mumbai) explore the smile as a mask we consciously choose in moments of difficulty—a gesture of resilience and hope. But when the mask becomes permanent, where does the performance end and the self begin?
In Where Are You From?, Snigdha Prabhakar (Bangalore) reflects on the idea of home. Shaped by a childhood spent moving across states with an Air Force family, the work asks whether belonging can truly be tied to geography, or found instead in memory, care and the people we carry with us.
The Distance Called Us, by Henna Raisinghani and Radhika Rathod (Pune), enters the space between two bodies. Through touch, silence, repetition and interruption, it explores connection, resistance, dependence, distance and memory—and the paradox of how distance can separate us while also bringing us closer.
Together, these three works offer distinct perspectives on the self and the world, expressed through the evolving language of contemporary dance.
