About The Event

Kala Coast Music Festival, organized annually, is the headline event of Kala Coast. With a mission to celebrate the diversity of music, this year`s event features prominent artists and musicians representing various genres of music like classical, semi classical, folk music, film and popular music. This year the event is being held in 5 sessions across 3 days. Participants will also be able to attend workshops and attend a film screening between sessions. 

Kala Coast is a movement for the arts, connecting artists, art lovers, students and the larger community. Kala Coast attempts to bring together diverse art forms and artists under one roof, to perform, practice, profess, interact, discuss, collaborate, explore and exchange their ideas and skills. The primary objectives of Kala coast are celebrating the diversity of arts, encouraging the spirit of collaboration and empowering the artists.

Rangshila was founded in 2008 with a vision to celebrate and promote the performing arts. It warmly welcomes artists from all over the world to collaborate, create and grow together. Rangshila is a vibrant platform and institute that embraces diverse forms of cultural and artistic expressions.


Session 1: Santanchi Lokawani-Folk Music from the Saint Literature of Maharashtra
A presentation of songs predominantly representing the Warkari tradition, written by saints like Dnyaneshwar, Namdeo, Tukaram, etc. expressed through forms like Abhang, Bharud, Gavlan, Gondhal, Jagran etc., presented by Avadhoot Gandhi along with extremely talented musicians from Alandi, near Pune adept at playing various traditional instruments.

Session 2: 'Talab Tabley Ki' and Khayal Recital
An interesting narrative on the Tabla by renowned Tabla player Shruteendra Katagade, followed by
A rendition of Hindustani Vocal Music (Khayal) by Aniruddha Aithal accompanied by Yogeesh Bhat (Tabla) and Prasad Kamath (Harmonium).  

Session 3: Strings of Joy
A melange of film and popular music compositions by mandolin maestro Pradipto Sengupta and group. This session will feature various string instruments across cultures which we hear often in film, folk and popular music.

Session 4: Dhrupad
A concert of morning Raags by Dhrupad maestro Uday Bhawalkar, accompanied on the Pakhawaj by Pratap Awad.

Session 5: Pawas Prasang
The seasons have for long been closely associated with Indian art music. Pawas, or the monsoon, has for ages inspired a wealth of poetry and music. Vocalist and composer Shubha Mudgal has sourced a variety of verses on the theme of monsoon that offer varied perceptions of Pawas or Varsha Ritu. These verses will be rendered by her in khayal, thumri-dadra and folk forms like kajri, jhoola etc that she has been studying for several decades. Presented by Shubha Mudgal (Vocals & Composition), Dr. Aneesh Pradhan (Tabla) and Sudhir Nayak (Harmonium).
