We are honoured to present Kalaimamani Shri Embar Kannan as the next artiste of Notes of Nectar series. He will be joining us live on Tuesday, April 28th at 7 p.m. IST.
Embar Kannan is a violinist from Chennai. Born to Sangeetha Bhushanam Embar Sri. Sadagopan and Smt. Padmasani Sadagopan, Kannan has spent his formative years steeped in music thanks to the rich knowledge of his parents. His initial training in violin was under the guidance of Sri. Subbanna Bhagavatar and later Sri. Vittal Ramamurthy. He then came under the tutelage of Padma Shri awardee, Sangita Kalanidhi A Kanyakumari for advanced training.
With over three decades of experience as a performer, as an accompanying artiste and also as a composer, Kannan has established himself as a highly sought after and versatile artiste today. A major contributing factor to his success is the good fortune of playing innumerable concerts with his Guru, A. Kanyakumari.
Kannan has received many a prestigious award, such as the title of Kalaimamani from the Government of Tamil Nadu for 2009, Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Shiromani for the year 2009 from Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai and the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for 2010 from the Sangeet Natak Akademi to name a few. The Music Academy, Madras has conferred on him the award of Best Violinist sixteen times.
He is an A-Top artiste of All India Radio.
Kannan continues to accompany many leading musicians in the field of Carnatic music.
Having been additionally trained in Western classical music during his initial years, he went on to form the fusion ensemble ‘Crossroads’. He has been a part of Maestro Ilayaraja's orchestra for several years; an experience that has segued into him now working with numerous established music directors from the South Indian film industry.
