About The Event
Embrace the gentle, contemplative flow of Mohiniyattam as group presentation ‘Keli’ takes you through a meditative compilation inspired by the local legends, folk theatre, age-old rituals and regional practices of Kerala. Witness ace danseuse Dr Methil Devika and her troupe of talented dancers conjure myriad visions and rhythms as the beautiful nuances of the dance form weave together an enchanting tapestry. Along with the invocatory piece and a sequence on the Bhadrakali, uniquely portrayed as a cheeky, playful Goddess, the two main pieces for the evening will be Eshal and Uchchila.
Palakkad-based practitioner and academic of Mohiniattam, Dr Methil Devika took her first lessons in dance under Acharya Kalaimamani S. Natarajan of Tanjavur, who was the torchbearer of the ritualistic dance theatre called the Bhagavata Mela Natakam of Melattur. She simultaneously trained in Mohiniyattam under Kalamandalam Vijayalakshmi of the Regatta Cultural Society and later by Kalamandalam Leelamma. The Mohiniattam exponent has two national awards and three state awards to her credit and her works are commissioned by multiple prestigious organisations around the world.
