Kintsugi is a striking new dance-theatre production from Sampradaya Dance Creations, Canada inspired by the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with gold. Conceived by Founder Lata Pada and co-choreographed with Artistic Director Suma Suresh, this Indian classical–contemporary work transforms themes of pain and repair into a moving expression of strength, beauty, and identity.
In a time of conflict and fracture across the world, Kintsugi reimagines stories from the Mahabharata to present a work that is both timely and timeless—speaking to collective perseverance and the enduring power of transformation.
Performed by a cast of six dancers trained in Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and contemporary movement vocabularies, Kintsugi features an original score blending classical Indian music by the ensemble Trayam, with contributions from Praveen D. Rao, B.C. Manjunath, and Grammy-nominated singer Varijashree Venugopal. The result is a layered emotional soundscape that echoes themes of rupture and renewal.
