A proficient on folk traditions and fine arts Ilaji will be taking us through the different folk tales of India where snakes play a pivotal role and also enlightening the audience about the conspicuous snake culture of India.
Both the traditions, Kalbelia and Jagran are performed in honor of Lord Shiva. Kalbelia is a nomadic community, whose traditional occupation is snake charming. Pungi or Been is a special instrument of Kalbelia community used to enchant snakes. The main performers of Kalbeliya dance are female dancers who dance and swirl, replicating the movements of a serpent. Jagran is a celebration in which Shiva devotees observe an all-night vigil, sing devotional hymns and songs and play music on instruments made of copper and brass. Tales on different avatars of Lord Shiva are enacted during the night.
